Breakdown - Plus/Minus

I figured why since I don’t post as much as I want, why not give something awesome to make up for it?!

Breakdown is probably one of the most solid Hardcore bands I’ve ever heard. Even going back to the beginning, the songs always had something that stood out for me.

I could of took the easy way out and uploaded Blacklisted, but then I thought, why not post  something most people forget…Plus/Minus. For some reason, people stop listening to Breakdown after the Blacklisted EP…I don’t know why, but Plus/Minus always felt exactly the same…only longer. Maybe it’s because it’s a full length, or maybe because older songs where rerecorded? I’ll never understand when asking people if they liked P/M more so than Blacklisted, they respond, “Oh I’ve never actually listen to it.”

And yes, it’s obviously happen on many occasions to where I’ve actually had to post about it on my blog -_-

Any who, download this amazing record. I mean, seriously, how well-crafted is “Megalomaniac” for the first track of an album?! So  unreal. ENJOY!

xFILESx - Split/Self Defense

With such an awesome name as xFILESx, how does one not automatically listen to them?!

Fairly short lived band, xFILESx bring the heavy and pick up the speed to deliver short, fast, pissed and funny? to Hardcore Punks all around the world.

This 7" has been going through my head lately, so might as well make you suffer (or is it heaven?) as well.

Step Aside - "In Search of Something More" Trailer

Over the past few weeks I'm been pretty busy, mostly with work and film related stuff. I had an amazing opportunity to hit the road with my buds in Step Aside/Wrong Idea for the weekend Mindset California tour.

It was beyond anything I could of expected. Hanging with friends as they trekked through Cali, while meeting a few new friends, was something I never thought I'd get the chance to actually do. I can't thank everyone who made that trip possible, it was something I will NEVER forget.

But when I was there, my buddy (Dom; film maker partner) and I filmed an extensieve part of the trip. From the Tour Kick Off show in Tucson, to the last day at Chè Cafè, we documented everything we could of.

Now, two weeks later, I'm getting ready to go through all the footage we captured and make something for all to see.

Step Aside - "In Search of Something More" will be a full documentary on the past, present and future of the band. As well as a look into the Mindset tour, and more. It might take a while, but the doc. is in full swing.

108 - Threefold Misery

Bringing religion into Punk/Hardcore has always been looked at, weirdly. Both bad and good has come from bands who have put their personal faith into their music. At times, the idea of “Faith” being sang has come off as pushy and unwanted. But there are a few bands who can whole heartily put their love for Hardcore and their faith into songs, and make it a masterpiece. One, obviously is the all mighty “krishnacore” band 108.

Threefold Misery is an album that showcases how one band can mix religion and breakdowns in such a manner, that I get goosebumps for every songs. I always thought Threefold Misery was the big “BANG” before they disbanded. Almost like a, “Hey this is what you’re gonna be missing now we aren’t a band.” type of thing. Luckily, the band has got back together and plays here and there, which makes my dream of seeing them live more than possible. I’ll just leave their link here, so you can discover how amazing this album is.

Development - Winter's EP

Pop Punk; a genre that can get a whole lot of mix feelings from many people. Seems likes within the last few years, it has taking on a whole new life. Not to say you have to like it or even agree about it, but when kids start to wear “Pop Punk saved my life” on social media outlets or wearing “Pop Punk Isn’t Dead” Shirts (even though I don’t remember anyone really saying it’s dead), the genre has expanded to be a whole life of its own. And with their journey just started, Development is on the right path to bring pride and hopefully a new life into the scene.

Hailing from my home state of Arizona, Development brings a sound not always heard from a “Pop Punk” band. The “Winter’s EP” sounds more like an unreleased Title Fight material, rather than a Wonder Years exact rip off band. With smooth and solid sounding instrumentals backing a rough and raspy vocal delivery, Development has already moved for away from their peers of the same genre.

If you’re a fan of later Title Fight, Crime In Stereo and Make Do and Mend, then Development’s “Winter’s EP” is the album you’re looking for. I mean, with a total play time of just over ten minutes, how is checking out this EP a band thing??

Strain Seven Inches

Last year, Rain Fest decided to rule hard, and add a band that came out of nowhere. They somehow got one of the best bands to reunite. A band that came into my life by discovering any/all bands on New Age Records. Sad to say I didn't make it, and when I think back, I probably should of just gone for broke and heading up so I could of seen the all mighty Strain play one last time...but let's hope it's not the last time.

Bummed me out pretty hard when I got word from Alex (Code X Red) that the crowed was super lame and did not, nay, could not appreciate the true excellence  of Strain. But, seeing at I tend to find and/or discover bands that absolutely no one gives a shit about, that couldn’t ruin my respect and admiration for this band. I may hold them up to a higher merit than other bands in the era, but remembering being a dumb teenager, seeing that New Age Records stamp and putting Here and Now on for the first time…It just reminds me the love I have for this “scene”. That feeling I got, and still get, when I take a chance on a random band, all in hopes that I won’t take out the CD and be completely disappointed. Strain, other than being such a solid band, really reminds me of the love I have for all of this, whatever it might be.

Strain is the exact sound and feel of 90’s Hardcore. Being one of the best and heaviest bands from the Northwest, Strain’s discography is one of the best I’ve had heard in all existence. Sure, you can say a lot of songs where reused for variously releases, but that does not take away from the actually music being made. They only where around from early to mid/later 90’s, but that short time as an active band, gave us so much good to listen to. I decided to upload a collection of seven inches. I think it’s all they release, maybe minus a bootleg, but it’s a great way to discover a band and I have such found memoires of. Now, all of these songs have been re-released onto CD Compilations, so If you want physical copies I’m sure your wish can come true.  Enjoy!
